Noble Wood Maintenance

The wood in a SaunaBrick is selected for its heat responsiveness and natural aroma. Unlike other materials, wood "breathes," and we must ensure that direct skin contact does not leave salt or body oil residues that could darken the bench or backrest over time.

It is not necessary to cover the entire cabin; simply protecting the seating and backrest points with a towel prevents sweat from seeping into the fibers. Proper ventilation after each use is key for the wood to release residual moisture and maintain its natural, healthy state for years to come.

Cleaning Keys:

  • Use towels on the areas where you sit or lean.
  • Wipe any surface stains with a dry cloth after the session.
  • Leave the door open when finished to dry the interior.

Volcanic Stones Lifespan

The stone set is the lungs of your sauna, and its wear depends exclusively on the intensity of use and how frequently water is poured over them. Thermal shock eventually cracks them, reducing their ability to store heat and obstructing air circulation within the heater.

In an occasional home sauna, stones can last a long time, but in daily or professional environments, inspection is vital. You will know it's time to renew them when you see them crumbling easily, when volcanic dust appears at the base of the heater, or if you notice the sauna takes longer than usual to reach the set temperature.

Heat Care:

  • Monitor if the sauna takes longer than usual to heat up.
  • Clean the bottom of the heater to remove stone dust.
  • Renew stones only when you see them breaking or crumbling.

Annual Surface Renewal

SaunaBrick wood does not support varnishes or synthetic sealers, as these block natural transpiration and can emit chemical vapors at high temperatures. The best way to maintain the pristine appearance of the benches is through natural mechanical maintenance.

A very gentle manual sanding once a year (or when signs of use appear) allows the virgin wood fiber to be exposed. This not only restores the original light color but also reactivates the natural aroma of cedar or spruce. It is a quick task that gives the cabin a "just installed" feeling.

How to Renew the Wood:

  • Gently sand the benches once a year (P180 grit).
  • Vacuum the interior thoroughly to remove any dust.
  • Never apply varnish, paint, or oils of any kind.

Adjustments for Rustic Models

SaunaBrick rustic saunas are built to be unalterable, but since they are made of thick solid wood, slight expansion movements are normal. These movements indicate the wood is fulfilling its regulatory function but require minimal supervision to maintain efficiency.

Especially in outdoor saunas, we must ensure the door seal remains airtight. A small misalignment in the hinges can cause a constant heat leak, forcing the heater to work harder than necessary. A quick and periodic adjustment ensures the thermal experience is perfect and energy consumption is kept to a minimum.

Structural Checks:

  • Adjust hinges if you notice the door does not close perfectly.
  • Keep drains clean if the sauna is located outdoors.
  • Check the roof occasionally to prevent leaks.
